Playstation 3 final release date announced.

Nindendo Wii Console Review

Nindendo Wii

From the very beginning, a new console from the company that presented Mario to the world was surrounded by many rumors. Against the transcendental performance of the next Sony Playstation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 consoles, the Nintendo console seemed a gray spot. Nothing was known about her except for the loud working title of Nintendo REVOLUTION. Many analysts argued whether the prefix would be as revolutionary as its name, while fans waited and hoped. As a result, when the official characteristics of the data were finally recognized, many were in shock. The Nintendo company did not focus on the megahertz race and permissions, its assets were somewhat different ...

Nindendo Wii

The company Nintendo with its new console Wii ventured to get off the beaten path of building consoles. While the creators of the Sony Playstation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 emphasize the impressive graphic abilities of their creations, Nintendo downplays the importance of graphics in their new console. Sony Playstation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 are logical continuations of their predecessors (Playstation 2 and MS Xbox), and the rather strangely named Nintendo Wii has practically nothing to do with the Nintendo GameCube released back in 2001. Sony and Microsoft products are equipped with traditional ergonomic joysticks with buttons, sticks and shifta, and the Nintendo joystick is most reminiscent of the remote control remote control of a TV or music center 🙂

Such strange choices of manufacturers may immediately alienate many from the console of the Nintendo company. It seems that underestimating the importance of the processor, the use of the seemingly inconvenient joystick and a very strange name, became the fatal mistakes of Nintendo. But this is only the initial opinion ... Undoubtedly, the Nintendo Wii has an unusual control and a less powerful processor than its competitors, but it perfectly performs its most important function: getting pleasure from the game !!

Inside the box.

Nindendo Wii

The console is packed in a stylish light box, on the back of which there is a list of the contents of the package. The kit includes everything you need to connect the Nintendo Wii to a regular TV: the console itself, a wireless joystick with an adapter, a cradle (stand for installing the Nintendo Wii vertically), a touch panel and 2 cables (power supply and for connecting to a TV). The bundled cable does not provide a maximum resolution of 480p (that is, 480 vertical lines with progressive scan), so the happy owners of HDTV will definitely want to get a cable that delivers a higher resolution (it is sold separately from the console).

Nintendo Wii is the smallest among all the latest-generation consoles, its dimensions are 1.75x6.25x8.5 inches (when the console is horizontal), that is, approximately as a stack of 3 DVD cases. Initially, the prefix will be only white, but then other color modifications should appear. Just like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, you can put the Wii upright on a stand, so that the console takes up less space. Nintendo Wii has a sliding drive mechanism that allows you to read both standard 12 cm discs and 8 cm discs from the GameCube without a special adapter.

Nintendo Wii contains 512 megabytes of internal memory for saved games and other data. If the user does not have enough half a gigabyte of memory, then the console has a slot for Secure Digital format cards. Prices for SD cards are gradually reduced and their support from the console side is justified.

Despite the fact that the delivery of the Nintendo Wii is quite austere, there is one pleasant surprise in the box. Wii Sports is attached to the console: a fairly simple but very interesting game that allows you to judge the capabilities of the console without spending money on licensed discs with games. Wii Sports uses a wireless joystick as a sports equipment, allowing the user to play baseball, tennis, golf, bowling or boxing. Up to 4 players are supported simultaneously in multiplayer mode, although for this you will have to buy at least one additional joystick. Moving the joystick in space corresponds to the movements on the monitor / TV screen, which makes the game of bowling or golf incredibly attractive.

Connect and configure

Connecting the Nintendo Wii is very easy and fast. On the rear panel of the console there are only 5 ports: - For the power cable; - for a cable connecting to a TV / monitor (A / V cable); - to connect the touch panel; - and, finally, 2 standard USB ports to expand the capabilities of the platform. Connect the touch panel, position it below or above your TV, connect the video cable and the power cable and the console is ready to go! Simple, isn't it?

Once everything is connected, press the On / Off button on the front panel of the console to install the software. Parameters such as time, date and user name can be easily configured using the joystick. The only serious setting that the user will have to perform is connecting to the network via a Wi-Fi adapter, but it is also difficult to get confused if you follow the instructions in the menu. Wi-Fi connection works over secure WEP and WPA encrypted connection. When testing, no problems with Wi-Fi were revealed, everything worked clearly and predictably. If you do not have access to the Wi-Fi-network, but want to play online, then the problem is solved by an Ethernet adapter connected via USB.

As soon as all Wi-Fi settings are completed, a specially developed WiiConnect24 service system is turned on. Through it, you can not only automatically download system updates, you can also watch the weather and news.

Wii Channels: media and online features

Navigation console Nintendo Wii carried out on a number of pages, called Wii Channels; they are accessed via the WiiConnect24 connection. Standard Wii channels include a news channel, a weather forecast channel, a message channel, a photo channel, and a special channel for creating personal avatars called Mii.

The Mii channel allows you to create and modify small cute avatars, which can then be used in online games. Mii avatars are cartoony and extremely simple, but the Mii channel includes a lot of appearance settings to make the image look like you, your friends or some celebrity. These images do not seem very useful, but they can be used in games such as Wii Sports, as well as in the communication channel (Wii's Message Channel).

The channel of photos (Wii's Photo Channel) will very pleasantly surprise you. In this channel you can view and edit images. Nintendo also claims that the Wii can also play MP3 music files as well as QuickTime videos, but in reality this is not entirely true. You can listen to MP3 tunes only during the slideshow, and the test video failed to start. But still the main function of the channel is working with photos. With the Secure Digital format card you can upload thousands of different images, thereby obtaining a convenient digital photo album. You can view each photo separately, you can simultaneously display several images on the screen, and you can turn on the slideshow mode. Photo Channel also includes a simple image editor, although this feature looks more fun than a great editing feature.

When considering the multimedia capabilities of the Nintendo Wii, it is necessary to mention some of the features that many users may be puzzled. Oddly enough, the console is not able to play either DVD discs with movies, or musical Audio-CDs ... Of course, most of us nowadays have a DVD player and a music center at home, but these functions are already standard in the latest generation of consoles and their absence NintendoWii is very disappointing. Officially, the company Nintendo says that the lack of multimedia capabilities can significantly reduce the price of the console, but it is hard to believe. If you recall the story, the Nintendo GameCube also lacked the lack of DVD support. Nintendo Wii also does not have the ability to download video or audio files from the Internet due to the lack of a hard disk.

And finally, consider the capabilities of the console for communication between players. For this purpose is the Message Channel. It is used to send messages to other users of the Nintendo Wii console. Each player will have a unique Friend Code, to which the message is sent. The Message Channel also allows you to learn about changes in the gaming system, new games and firmware, and other information.
