Something quite a while ago I did not tell you about the new Kisai watches. As you remember, the designers of this Japanese company create not simple watches, but real puzzles for inquisitive minds. Often, to find out the time from them, you need to concentrate as much as possible and remember the tricky rules that are unique to each model. Today I will tell you about the new model of watches Kisai Katana Link, as well as play out three sets of such watches among our readers as part of a creative competition.
These watches are not just so called Katana. The katana is a traditional Japanese sword, which the samurai used from the 15th to the 19th century, inclusive. And the watch is completely missing the minute hand, but there’s nothing to say about the second. This is another mystery of Kisai designers: learn to define time in a samurai way. A real samurai doesn't care about some minutes and seconds. The hour hand is almost motionless on the dial, but the Japanese warrior can watch the trees grow for hours, so the current time is not at all frightening.
At first, it’s very unusual to determine time with just one hand. As a test drive, I wore a Kisai Katana Link watch on my arm during my working day and kept looking at the dial anxiously: it seemed to me that the watch had broken and got up. There was a feeling that the katana blade was not moving forward at all, which worried me a little. But in reality, time went on as usual, and with my whole being I tried to speed it up.
There was something meditative in the process of contemplating the unhurried course of life. Every hour on the dial is divided into five equal divisions, each of which, which is perfectly logical, personifies 12 minutes of time. When I caught the rules of reading the current time from an unusual watch, calm and tranquility came to me. Of course, on such a watch you can not determine the time to within a minute, but you can still use them in everyday life. Yes, and they look really stylish. Nothing superfluous: strict lines, sharpened katana blade, a minimum of unnecessary information. Truly samurai approach.
The case and the watch strap are made of metal with a dusting that resembles ceramics in its entirety. I am not a great specialist in ceramics, as this is the first such watch in my personal collection, so I can’t tell you how practical and durable this coating is. However, I will immediately note that on such a surface fingerprints appear almost instantly. Which is somewhat frustrating. Although there is someone like that.
You probably noticed that the name of the watch also contains the word Link. So called smart watch bracelet, designed by Kisai. Rather, to say that this is not even a bracelet, but only one of its sections. Kisai company produces these bracelets in a variety of styles for all of its watches. So what is this Link good for?
Immediately it should be noted that the Link bracelet will not turn your wristwatch into an analogue Apple Watch. Rather, it simply is a convenient help for its owner. Link is a compact gadget with a built-in rechargeable battery, external magnetic contacts for the charger (Link is charging from USB with the included cable), a round power button, and four LED indicators of different colors.
The bracelet must be synchronized with your smartphone, creating a Bluetooth-pair. To do this, you will have to download the Kisai Bridge application from the App Store (unfortunately, Android and Windows Phone smartphones are not supported yet). To start synchronization, activate Bluetooth on your phone, start the scanning process in the application and press the power button on the Link bracelet. After synchronization, the bracelet can be configured using the application so that it notifies you of incoming calls, text messages, messages on social networks with the help of five options for vibration and flicker of the corresponding indicators.
It is very convenient when you rush on noisy city streets for half a day and you don’t hear and feel the smartphone in your pocket. It is much easier to feel the vibration on your wrist. I checked this function on myself and became convinced of its undoubted benefit. The truth is that the messages from social networks had to be turned off in the application, since I constantly have someone to write something and it is very distracting. But from one charge Link bracelet works from three to five days (in energy saving mode), which surprised me a lot.
What else do you want to say about Kisai Katana Link watches? They are protected from water spray, so that they can walk in the rain. As a battery, the watch uses a 1.55 volt SR616SW battery. It's time to name the three winners of our small, but very unusual creative contest. Choosing the best haiku authors was very difficult. It turned out that among our readers there are often wonderful poets who liked Japanese poetry no less than I did. Some haiku made me smile, and some gave me reason to think. This is the magic of this oriental art - put in three tiny lines the whole story, a sea of emotions, a reason for reflection. Unfortunately, due to the fact that we have only three prizes, we had to choose only three people from a huge number of talented participants of the competition.
