Philips introduced a new screen format

In fact, many people know that the formats of modern displays, including LCD panels, are 16: 9 and 16:10, but when it comes to TVs, the main format here is the first. They say that such displays are ideal for watching videos and movies in HD resolution. However, thanks to Philips, we know that there is a new 21: 9 format that will supposedly save LCD TVs from the eternal problem of Letterbox.

To the surprise of many, yesterday, Philips officially unveiled its first LCD TV in the Cinema 21: 9 LCD TV series. This model has a screen with an aspect ratio of 21: 9, and this is the world's first HD TV with this format. If you believe the famous Dutch company, TVs with the traditional 16: 9 format somehow distort the image, and viewers often see black bars in the upper and lower parts of the screen when watching some, especially old films. This effect is referred to as a letterbox (mailbox), and for many years, experts have been fighting it by changing the screen format. Whether Philips will be able to solve this problem with its new 21: 9 screen format is hard to say, but some skeptics have already expressed the opinion that vertical bars will appear on the screen instead of horizontal ones. However, Philips claims that when watching movies on Cinema 21: 9 LCD TV, the viewer will feel as if he is in a huge hall of a real cinema, since films on Panavision 70 mm films have exactly the same format.

Among the main design features of the new Philips widescreen TV is Ambilight Spectra technology, which provides three-way background lighting. Little is yet known about the technical characteristics of the novelty, but the TV is quite large and has a screen size of 56 inches diagonally. As Philips promises, widescreen movies with a 16: 9 format will be adapted for viewing on a Cinema 21: 9 LCD TV, but so far the Dutch company has not gone into details.

As expected, Cinema 21: 9 LCD TV will be available this spring.
