Brooklyn metal artist Adrian Landon as a child loved the designer LEGO. He also loved horses because his father was a veterinarian and also an avid polo player. It was childhood memories that pushed Adrian to the realization of an incredible project to create a mechanical sculpture of a horse in full growth. I think you will certainly be impressed by the result of his efforts.

Work on the all-metal installation began in 2013. Then the artist created several sculptures of horses without moving parts in order to better study the anatomy of the animal. Unfortunately, Adrian’s knowledge of engineering was rather poor, so he began research in this direction from scratch. First, the outline of the future sculpture on paper, then the study of how the horses move and, finally, the painstaking work in the 3D CAD application.

Through trial and error, the artist managed to create a drawing of a mechanism that realistically simulates the movements of a real horse. Many failed layouts were sent to the trash bin during the development process, but the final result exceeded even his own expectations.

When creating the sculpture was used more than 100 bearings, gears, cut out with a laser, about 10 meters of roller chain and 23 crankshafts. All this is driven by a small electric motor. You can see what this awesome installation looks like in the video below:
