While Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are storming people's hearts in an attempt to convince them of the attractiveness of virtual reality, and Microsoft with its HoloLens is aiming at the professional sector, Intel decided to go a few different ways. The corporation, which made a name in the production of all sorts of processors, announced the work on a headset of "combined" reality, code-named Project Alloy. You are probably wondering what the word "combined" means in the title? And this means that your own hands will get from the real world straight to the virtual world, where you can interact with them with your environment.

Within the framework of the conference held by the company yesterday, it was announced the development of a fundamentally new device for immersing into virtual reality. At the same time, thanks to the built-in cameras and Intel RealSense technologies, the user will see inside the game their own hands, with which he can interact with virtual objects within the simulation. From now on, you will not need any additional controllers for the game, which will greatly simplify the immersion of man in fantasy worlds.

"Mixed reality is a more natural way of interacting and manipulating within a virtual environment," says Intel CEO Brian Krzanic. "We want to achieve this by releasing your hands from the game controllers that modern VR systems are equipped with, replacing them with your own hands with a new motion capture technology."

Another pleasant difference between Project Alloy and its competitors is the complete absence of wires connecting the headset and computer. Recall that Oculus Rift, Vive and PlayStation VR are connected to the video signal source by wires, which though rather long, but still prevent you from feeling completely free to move. The battery will be integrated into the back of the headset. Of course, this is still just a concept that has yet to be brought to the mind and thoroughly polished. The fact that your hands are displayed on the screen in very low resolution and appear on the screen only when you bring them to the center of the field of vision is striking.

But, anyway, Intel is very determined and does not want to stop there. True, the company does not intend to produce a headset on the market, transferring the rights to its release and distribution to other manufacturers. The first devices should appear on the shelves in the second half of 2017. It seems that soon the term "combined reality" can be added to the concepts "virtual reality" and "augmented reality". Well, we do not know how you are, but we will definitely be morally ready for this.
