It seems that the engineers of Disney decided to please the fans of the Star Wars space saga with brand new real light swords! Well, if it's for purity, not quite real, because you can only defeat such a sword with a specially designed virtual object, but it will look very much even spectacular and realistic. Especially cool would be to wave such a toy in a theme park, standing in the environment of virtual enemies, among the wreckage of the starship or on the ruins of the Death Star.
So, last year, long before the announcement of the construction of Star Wars Land, Disney decided not to waste time and patented an interactive system combining the hilt of the sword, the controller and the devices that put in the room couples or something like that. The floating drones in the room will emit rays of light downward, and the handle of the light sword equipped with infrared LEDs will reflect the light of the drones, thus it is planned to create the illusion of the movement of the light sword. Due to the presence of steam, dust or something like that, the player will be able to see better the lightsaber he holds in his hands. And not only to see, they will also wave, and, perhaps, the technology will even allow them to fight with someone.
The company's press secretary commented rather dryly on the possibility of using this patented technology:
We often register different inventions, and the fact of registration does not at all mean that in the future everything that we have patented will necessarily be done and implemented. At the moment we have nothing to announce about this.
The patent was registered quite unnoticed, so it attracted attention only now, when the company Disney vengeance is engaged in creating a giant pavilion in its amusement park, located in Florida.
