Every day we see announcements of new and new gadgets that supposedly should improve our immersion in VR-worlds. We are offered various cameras, gloves and even treadmills to improve the simulation of travel within the virtual reality. Engineers from the Chinese company Dextra Robotics have developed unique exoskeleton gloves capable of transmitting physical sensations from human interaction to non-existent virtual objects. The gloves are called Dexmo.


During two years of research, Chinese developers created more than 20 glove prototypes before they could find their optimal shape and make the gadget work as originally intended. Gloves track 11 degrees of freedom of movement of the user's hands and have the necessary effect on each individual finger at the moment of interaction of the hand with the virtual object. Surprisingly, these interactions differ depending on whether you took a virtual stone in your hand (finger drives will not allow you to squeeze fingers further than the size of the object allows) or a rubber duck (you can squeeze your fingers with a little effort that will mimic the rubber) .

But you should not rejoice over time. Although the prototype of gloves has already been created and, according to the developers, it has perfectly proved itself in working with such headsets as Oculus Rift, Vive and even Microsoft HoloLens, many gadgets still need to be solved before the gadget is on sale. The president of Dextra Robotics, Aler Gu, told reporters that he is currently negotiating with leading software developers and video game developers, who should include device support in their products. Without this, it's simply pointless to enter the market, he believes. Well, we will closely monitor the fate of this unusual project.
