# video | Do it yourself: interactive designers Nintendo Labo

Not so long ago, we told you that the Japanese company Nintendo quite unexpectedly introduced a line of unusual interactive designers Nintendo Labo. With the help of cardboard, additional parts, the Nintendo Switch game console and its two Joy-Con controllers, parents together with their children can create amazing toys. On the official YouTube channel Nintendo, new videos were published, shedding light on how it would look. We suggest you familiarize yourself with them.

The company Nintendo is not always engaged in video games. Even at the end of the 19th century she started by producing playing cards of "Hanafud", then, in the middle of the 20th century, she switched to toys for children and only in the late 70s became interested in electronics. If you miss the era of the production of slot machines and clones of PONG-systems, the first resounding success to the Japanese manufacturer came with the release of the 8-bit Famicom console in 1983. In our country, this prefix is known under the guise of the Taiwan clone Dendy. It was then about Nintendo learned all without exception people interested in video games.

Video games are, of course, good. But the Japanese manufacturer is not going to forget its roots. Thus, the concept of Nintendo Labo was born, in which from absolutely unpretentious materials like cardboard users can together with their children collect amazing interactive toys. Together with the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch game console, this will erase the boundary between the virtual and real world, while you do not need expensive VR headsets or other auxiliary devices. All these joys of the owners of Nintendo Labo designers can collect for themselves.

So far, two sets have been announced. The first one is called "Assorted" and includes cardboard materials for the assembly of five different devices (Nintendo calls such devices - Toy-Con), a set of additional parts (rubber bands, laces, bindings, etc.), as well as a cartridge with a set of necessary software and interactive assembly instructions. The first mini-game is a radio-controlled machine that moves on flat hard surfaces using the on-screen interface and the Joy-Con controller inserted into it. The ultra-precise vibration technology HD Rumble allows the machine to move in the direction chosen by the user. You can choose the vibration frequency and fine tune the control interface, and you can even set it up so that it moves independently, guided by optical marks, thanks to the built-in infrared camera.

The second device is a fishing rod. An intricate mechanism will allow your children to play in a fishing simulator. At the bottom of the ocean you are waited by a variety of fish, which will be very difficult to catch. In the game, you can even add your own fish by drawing them and transferring them to the virtual space using the camera. Another unusual Toy-Con is the "House". It is a small cardboard house and a set of switches with which you can somehow influence the virtual space in which an unusual creature lives. The easiest way is to see it yourself, because it will not be easy to explain the nuances of this game with words.

The fourth Toy-Con is a motorcycle. With the help of a cardboard motorcycle rudder, players can play a kind of Mario Kart, and if they want, they can even create their own racing tracks, which then can be rolled alone or against virtual opponents. The cardboard piano complements the "Assorti" set. That's where the children can express themselves from the creative side. Music sounds are customized to your preferences, and additional controls will allow you to process and record sounds, as if you are in a real sound recording studio. But that is not all! The game allows you to cut out patterns from the paper in the form of sound waves and add them to the game, and also use a kind of "punch cards" to store certain rhythms. We invite you to see all this with your own eyes.

The second set of Nintendo Labo is called "Robot". As you already knew, he will offer the player to take control of the giant combat robot, just like in the recent film "The Pacific Frontier". The controls are handles connected by laces with a cardboard shoulder bag. The player can tilt left and right, thereby turning the robot in the right direction, can wear a special visor to change the view, can bend down so that the robot is transformed into a combat vehicle. In other words, the boys from this game will definitely be delighted. Although something tells me that some adults, too, will not refuse even for a short while to return to a happy childhood.

Both sets will go on sale already in April this year. In the US and Japan, Nintendo Labo has already taken the first place in the rating of the online store Amazon. And this means only one thing: the Japanese manufacturer again managed to do something that surprised everyone. We will tell you about your impressions from the interactive designers of Nintendo Labo, as soon as we can test them on ourselves (and on our children, of course). Stay with us!
