To be a fan of Nintendo in modern realities is not easy. Not only are you being assailed not only by adherents of PCs and other more powerful home video game consoles, so also the company that you support, often presents the next "surprises" and does not always justify your expectations. For years, she actually simply ignored the development of online services, the support of third-party developers and did not hesitate to use explicitly and openly obsolete "hardware" in their consoles. As a result, fans often had to make very controversial decisions.
And now Nintendo is going to release a new game console. And as usual, it turned out to be far from the ideal that I would like to witness. And, as usual, the most devoted fans of Nintendo are likely to be divided into two conditional camps this time: in one case, people will once again blindly deny that the company is doing something wrong and will run after the prefixes; in the other - they will be angry with the company and talk about the fact that it once again did not justify their hopes, but still they will also run after the new console. The other is not given. So let's drop a tearful tear over the come true and unfulfilled hopes and analyze only the facts. Sad facts, one must admit. But to learn them better now than after you buy a new Nintendo Switch.
There is almost nothing in the box with the prefix
If you used to buy Nintendo Wii, Wii U, or any of the company's portable 3DS systems, you were certainly pleased with the fact that in addition to the cherished console, there was something that, in fact, you could play on it . Wii Sports, Nintendo Land and various games for 3DS served as a guide to the world of new consoles: they learned to use the console and learn all about its capabilities. It was fun, adding weight to your experience and to some extent even adding the cost of each sold console. With Nintendo Switch, you can forget about it right away.
According to early reviews, leaks and reports, all that the owner of the new Switch will be able to do is go to the console's menu, configure the interface and make some settings to his profile (in particular, create an avatar of the Nintendo Mii). There are no games in the set. Buy separately.
No backward compatibility
Even if at first the previous generation of Nintendo consoles were not accompanied at the start of sales by sets with games, the buyer at least had the opportunity to recall the past and return to their old collection of games that could be launched on the new system. With Nintendo Switch, forget about this possibility. The new hybrid console is the first after Gamecube prefix, which does not support games for consoles of the previous generation.
Of course, this victim is most likely connected with the new format of games that Switch will offer, but still a sediment for someone may seem very unpleasant.
Many digital versions of games will have to wait
Software update of the "first day" will open the Switch console for access to the digital store Nintendo eShop, although you will not find the classic game titles there. The owners of the new set-top box will be allowed to buy only games such as Shovel Knight, a pair of "racing" games, as well as all the digital versions of the games that will be available on the day the sales begin. Nintendo has already confirmed that the features and range of Virtual Console offerings will be very limited on the day of launch. When he replenished everything he needed - the company modestly kept silent. But at least it pleases the fact that the work is under way and "everything and even more" will ultimately happen.
Few internal memory
If you plan to buy most of the games in the form of digital copies, you should think about buying an additional memory card in advance. The internal memory of Nintendo Switch is only 32 GB, with 6.1 GB reserved for the operating system of the console. As a result, you will only have 25.9 GB of free space for games. This is enough to load a couple of weighty titles on launch day, including the long-awaited The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the port of I Am Setsuna, but this obviously is not enough for everything else.
In fact, at least one game requires more free memory than the console itself can provide. It's about Dragon Quest Heroes I and II. It will "eat" up to 32 GB of memory without problems, exceeding the limit of the console itself. In other words, you either have to look for a way to increase the storage space for games on the console, or buy the majority of games in the cartridge format.
Forget about your favorite wireless headphones
Nintendo Switch will be the first prefix of the company with the support of online voice chat, however here you can create some inconvenience. In the settings of the console there is no possibility to connect your favorite Bluetooth-headset. In addition, none of the console controllers has an analog input for connecting at least wired ones.
The "tablet part" of the set-top box has its own audio connector, but it's obviously difficult to use it, conveniently lounging on the couch in front of your TV. You will need at least a very long cord. Nintendo said that a special mobile application-companion for smartphones will allow players to use voice chat through this device. This, in turn, can mean that wired or wireless Bluetooth headphones can be connected directly to your smartphone and used as a source of outgoing and incoming signals in games and voice chat. However, the decision seems complicated, if not problematic.
Stand Joy-Con Grip in the set does not have a built-in charging
The main management tool for the Nintendo Switch is the modular Joy-con controller, and the kit includes a heavy-weight holder, which allows you to conveniently fix the two halves for a more comfortable grip. Sounds cool! Unfortunately, with the included stand you will not be able to charge the controllers. The only possible means in this case is to connect the controller to the tablet part of the Switch, which will make it impossible to play the console on the TV in the case of dead batteries. Nintendo plans to separately sell exactly the same holder for the controller, but with built-in charging. The truth is you will cost an additional 30 dollars (or 2000 rubles).
On accessories you can go broke
Additional accessories for the Nintendo Switch will really cost you a lot. An additional pair of Joy-Con controllers will cost $ 80, one will have to pay $ 50. An additional docking station for TV will cost $ 90. Even for the Switch Pro controller you have to pay 70 dollars (4,500 rubles), which is higher than the cost of gamepads for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, ready to become yours for $ 60 per piece.
Most likely, the launch of Nintendo Switch will be accompanied by a "scratch". As a rule, this always happens with the launch of new game consoles. The same PlayStation 4 and Xbox One also did not become exceptions. In addition, given the "features" that the console will offer at the start, this "scratch" can be very loud and lingering. Does this mean that the new console will be a failure for Nintendo? Of course not! Fortunately, as already mentioned above, the loyal fans of the company abound. And even despite all its shortcomings (and I would like to believe that the new console has more advantages), thousands of people will flee for a new purchase on the first day of its sales. These people will not be stopped. In the meantime, Nintendo will calculate the first revenue, it will also have time to fix everything that might not like the first customers, as well as replenish the base of new games for it.
